fter a year of actual preparation and the greatest year of existence, following the overwhelmed acceptance from the Optimist World around the globe, the Organizers of The Regatta of Champions – The R.O.C. are pulling more aces from their sleeves to overcome the late occurrence of the 2024 Optimist World Championship in Argentina.
Due to the fact that there won’t be a World Championship, early enough in 2024, to pass out our R.O.C. Invitations to the top 8 Boys and the top 2 Girls, R.O.C. Organizers are mixing the 10 World Invitations along with 5 Wild Card Seats and organize The 1st Ever R.O.C. Kosmos Pre-Event.
This unique event will take place in Europe (venue will be announced soon) and will allow the participation of max 320 Optimist Sailors. To control the entries of each country, the Nations Ranking 2023 will be used. To keep the event at a high level of performance, sailors would be asked to present proof of their National Ranking.
The top 10 countries of the Nations Ranking 2023 will be permitted for 14 entries each, with sailors being ranked in the top 40 of their National ranking.
The next top 10 countries of the Nations Ranking 2023 will be permitted for 10 entries each, with sailors being ranked in the top 30 of their National ranking.
Countries not ranked in the top 20 of the Nations Ranking 2023, but are listed beyond 20, will be permitted for 5 entries each, with sailors being ranked in the top 20 of their National ranking.
Countries not ranked in the top 20 of the Nations Ranking 2023 and are not listed at all in it, will be permitted for 2 entries each, with sailors being ranked in the top 5 of their National ranking.
Entries will be accepted using the first come first served method, but at the end the National Ranking of each sailor will be taken under consideration. All entries will be evaluated by our Technical Committee.
The R.O.C. Kosmos Pre-Event will be a week-long event with 5 racing days and hopefully 20 races completed, using a lot of The R.O.C. format. Four fleets will be created, 80 each, racing daily, in two different race areas with different race courses.
All other details will be announced in the Notice of Race, along with the Venue. Possible dates of the Event, June 16th to 23rd of 2024.
