New Chapter in the Optimist Class History book, began yesterday with the first Official Races of the 2022 Chesva 2.0 Regatta of Champions – The R.O.C.. After years of planning, Organizers of The R.O.C. made it a reality.
Competition started with a hour delay, at 14:00, due to light winds that continue throughout the day. Using a Windward – Leeward course 3 races got completed and as expected, there were multiple winners.
The fleet was together throughout all the races and no sailor ever managed to pull away. Unbelievable spectacle with the colorful sails and boats the races could be watch on shore.
Metasail Tracking ( https://www.metasail.it/incoming/359/ ) worked perfectly and all races were Live Streamed by the Hellenic Sailing Federation Live Streaming Team ( https://www.regattaofchampions.com/the-r-o-c-2022-day-1/ ).
Back to the competition, Arantza Zimmermann (PER) showed the most consistency for the day and is leading after the completion of the races, on the first day, followed by Iason Panagopoulos (GRE) and Stefanos Samaras (GRE). 4th is Arthur Back (BRA) and 5th is Travis Greenberg (USA). Alberto Avanzini (ITA), Juan Bennassar (ESP), Ioannis Tournis (GRE), Emmanouil Vomvylas (GRE) and Joana Freitas (BRA) close up the top 10.
More wind is expected today, along with some exciting sailing competition.
